Most everyone believes his or her life, or some aspect of it, merits a published memoir. This workshop will consider what constitutes viable memoir material and the process involved in the development of a personal reminiscence. The primary steps leading to the memoir manuscript––subject, theme, narrative, structure, and style––will be explored. Through instruction and class discussion participants will arrive at a fuller appreciation of what comprises a successful memoir. Topics will include a brief review and analysis of popular memoirs and approaches to publishing.

Michael C. Keith, Ph.D., is the author/coauthor of 30 book volumes and dozens of articles on the subject of radio and broadcast studies. In addition to his non-fiction titles, Keith has published over a dozen creative works, including an acclaimed memoir: The Next Better Place––a young adult novel: Life is Falling Sideways––and several short story collections: among them Slow Transit, Perspective Drifts Like a Log on a River, Let Us Now Speak of Extinction, and Stories in the Key of Me. His fiction has been nominated for several awards, among them the Pen/O.Henry Award, the Pushcart Prize, the National Indie Excellence Award, and the International Book Award.
